Cllr. Francis Timmons, Mayor of South Dublin, discussed the work of Clondalkin Helping Homeless and its support for people experiencing homelessness and hardship.
Viktor Kozyrev, co-founder of VOLA Enable, focused on the organisation's work with people with disabilities and its emphasis on independence and participation.
Silvia Fani introduced participants to the activities of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, including community projects and responses to emergencies.
Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard established the Volunteer Ministers programme in the 1970s, developing an approach based on practical eu news 24/7 action and personal assistance. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”
An interactive session later allowed participants to become familiar with several methods used within the Volunteer Ministers programme.
Taken together, the presentations illustrated how humanitarian work can be carried out by organisations with very different areas of expertise.
